In Loving Memory
Nancy “Nan” Beck, 81, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona. She was a born on Valentine’s Day 1935 in Tiffin, OH to Oliver and Mary King. When her Mom tragically died when she was 11 years old, her Father struggled to raise her and her 4 other siblings. She professed her faith and joined a Lutheran Church where she received her communion. Her older brother Marvin “Jake” King and his wife Donna eventually raised Nancy and her younger sister Alice and she was able to earn her GED.
Nancy met Richard “Dick” Beck on blind date during a weekend furlough while he was in the U.S. Navy stationed at Norfolk, Virginia. The couple was married in 1955 and Dick completed his enlistment and bought a house in Cleveland, OH. After a few years they decided that adoption was how they wanted to grow their family and were blessed with 2 children; Allen Beck of Puyallup, WA married to Sheryl Beck, and Amy Beck fiancé of Vincent Nasuta of Mesa, AZ. After enduring the harsh cold winters of Ohio the family relocated to the warmer climate of Arizona in 1979 and for the next 37 years enjoyed their life. They remained lovingly married for 59 years.
Her career included working in a bakery then in a bank and adored her longest role as a stay-at-home Mom that she loved being. As the kids got older she went back to work at Helen Keller Elementary School cafeteria in Mesa, she stayed for many years and enjoyed her many co-workers and the students.
Nancy loved her crocheting and sewing, her backyard Jacuzzi, cooking and baking, her many beloved dogs, and of course entertaining close friends. She had a wonderful kind spirit and sense of humor; she loved sharing stories and jokes. She loved the outdoors and going on road trips. She always helped those in need, and those who knew her loved her and her beautiful smile. She was loved by many.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her grandchildren: Piper of Oregon, Savannah, Aidan and Emily of Arizona, Lauren, Kayla, Michael, and Matthew, of Washington State will share many great memories.
