Machnicki, Michael, 92 of Mesa, AZ, passed away on June 14, 2017. He was born in Podbor, Poland on September 28, 1924. When the German army came through his town in 1942, Michael was taken prisoner and forced to work on a labor farm for the duration of the war. Once liberated by American forces in 1945, Michael volunteered to work in a Polish Guard company assisting in the post war reconstruction effort in France and other European countries. Michael became a United States citizen after joining the US Army in 1953. He proudly served during the Korean War earning several commendations. Michael settled in Port Jefferson Station, Long Island, N.Y. where he worked as a cartographer for the FAA at Islip MacArthur Airport until his retirement in 1986. Michael & his wife Pauline moved to Mesa, AZ where he was an avid swimmer and race walker. He competed in several Senior Olympics where he won numerous medals. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Pauline and their four children Mary (Scott), Irene (Mark), Michael (Kara), Jean (Joe) and their eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is pre ceded in death by his parents Jan & Agnes Machnicki and only brother Boleslaw. Services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1244 S. Power Rd.
