Larry Shima, 86, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on April 15, 2024. Born in Mason City, Iowa, Larry received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1960. Larry served in the U.S. Navy where he retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He was very involved in the amateur (ham) radio community and was known by the call sign WOPAN.
In retirement Larry served on the boards of St. Vincent de Paul Phoenix and his local retirement community of Fountain of the Sun and was very involved with his local Catholic church community.
Larry is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughters Sherri and Bobbi, stepdaughters Tina, Marlene and Joanne and stepson Randy along with eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park & Funeral Care, 400 S Power Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206, on April 26th at 11:00 am. Committal services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024 on April 29th at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
