Joseph P. Oravec was born January 23, 1927 in Port Clinton, Ohio to immigrant parents George and Anna Oravec. He died March 17, 2016 at the age of 89. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1945 to November 1946. He was trained as a Forward Observer in the Field Artillery. After WW II ended he was transferred to the Military Police Unit in Colon, Panama to complete his military obligation. On November 6, 1948 he married Shirley A. Gunn. They had four sons; Joseph Jr. (Jeri), Jim (Denise), Rick (Kayci), Dave (Sandy) ,ten grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Joe attended National Airline School in Kansas City. Upon completion of his studies, he was selected by United Airlines in 1956 as a Passenger Agent in Toledo, Ohio. Upon retirement in 1983, Joe and Shirley enjoyed many trips and vacations to various parts of the USA, including Hawaii, Alaska, and several Caribbean vacations. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Shirley, brothers John and George and sister Margaret.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and a service the following day Thursday, March 24, 2016 10:00am. At Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, 400 South Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206.
Interment will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made in Joseph's name to Hospice of the Valley.
