Joseph M. Martin

Joseph Michael Martin, 88, of Gilbert, AZ passed away peacefully in his sleep, February 17, 2020. He was born September 6, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Joseph Herman and Helen [Collins] Martin. Joe graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago in 1949. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany, and then went on to serve in the Army Reserves until being honorably discharged in March 1960. Joe was married to the love of his life, Joan S. Dyrek on September 6, 1958 in Chicago, IL. He was an avid golfer and loved playing cards; his favorite game being Pitch. Joe was a proud member of the Mesa Hohokams since 1985. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan Sybil Martin; his sons: Brian (Julie), David (Anne), Jeffrey and Roger (Deirdre), his grandchildren: Dustin (Marcie), Jesse (Stacy),Jacob (Jessica), Colter (Julianne), Westin (Bailey), Katie (Garrett), Beth (Bryan Siegel), and Sasha, his great grandchildren: Minnie, Sheldon, Colby, Brexlin, Paige, Gunner, Lane, Emma, Maci and Wyatt Wayne and his sister Mary Stuparitz . He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, US Army Spc. Wyatt Joseph Martin. A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 6, 2020 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd in Mesa. A funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M.Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1244 S. Power Rd in Mesa. There will be a reception at Arizona Golf Resort following the church service.
