Joan R Martin passed away on June 1, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona. Born Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Louis and Anna (nee Evans) Schrader, Joan arrived on September 16, 1917. Graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, Joan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. For over 30 years Joan worked for the Internal Revenue Service as an Executive Secretary. When Collie Martin walked into her life, Joan fell in love. The couple married and spent 20 years adoring each other, until Collie passed away in the 1960’s. In the 1970’s, Joan did extensive traveling. Visiting China, Jerusalem, Germany, and Europe were some of her favorite destinations. Enjoying singing, she became a member of the 1st Baptist Church Choir. Joan’s favorite pet has always been the Chihuahua dog, she had several that were special to her throughout her life. Having a playful spirit, Joan was very sharp and had a knack for playing Mexican Train Dominos. A few years ago, at her family’s recommendation, Joan had an accountant prepare her taxes. Showing her sharp and with it personality, Joan quickly pointed out an error that the accountant made. Recently, she moved to Arizona from Texas to be closer to her family. She absolutely loved it here, she and her sister, Diana felt as if it was resort living! She was especially close with her sister. Her family is blessed knowing that she lived a full and independent life. Joan’s sweet smile and friendly, outgoing spirit will be missed by all of those who loved her dearly. She is survived by her sister, Diana Warren, nephew Tim (Paula) Warren, and David (Kathy) Warren, nieces Carolan (Van) Van Jepmond, and Patty (Gary) Roberts, and great niece Kelli (Joe) Worrell and their children Regina, Blake, and Hannah. Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Collie Martin, and her parents Louis and Anna Schrader. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 with a funeral service to follow on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park & Funeral Care 400 South Power Road Mesa, Arizona 85206 (480) 830-4422.
