It is with sadness in our hearts, but joy in our souls that we tell you of the passing of James (Jim) Robert Phillips, September 10, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is now free from pain and limitations after a seven year battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple myeloma.
Jim was born in Lincoln, NE on March 19, 1949. Jim enjoyed 49 and a half years of marriage with his beloved, Debra (Debbie) (Flock) Phillips. He thrived as a loving father to daughters, Roxanne Phillips and Jill (Phillips) Zents and as a goofy grandpa to grandson, Riley Zents.
Jim lived each day as a life-long learner with two Bachelor of Science degrees, the first in mechanical engineering and the second in accounting. He worked over 23 years at KN Energy/Kinder Morgan Natural Gas Company in many roles as a mechanical engineer. Jim explored numerous hobbies throughout his life such as swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, RC airplane building, sail boating, bicycling, and teaching himself the developing technology of computers. He was the dependable fix-it of all household problems. With Debbie at his side, Jim traveled around the world experiencing different cultures and adventures. He enjoyed reading anything from great mysteries to car manuals, listening to various music styles most notably Jimmy Buffet, and rocking out as a self-taught ukulele player. He tried and succeeded at it all.
Jim will always be remembered as a man with a joke at the ready, silly tricks for any kid, contemplative conversations with friends, and a quiet smile. The world is a better place because of all the love and laughter Jim shared. Now he celebrates his faith in heaven with Christ.
