Jeremy James Kerr, age 51, passed away February 23, 2025 in Mesa, AZ as the result of an auto accident. He was born September 26, 1973 in Buffalo, New York to Joann and Gary Kerr. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Jeremy, affectionately known by his family as Jeebs, graduated from Beechcroft High School in Columbus, Ohio in 1991. During his time in High School Jeremy was very active on the soccer and wrestling teams. After High school, Jeremy entered the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Upon entering the Army Jeremy became a part of 3rd Ranger Battalion. He was deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia and was involved in Operation Gothic Serpent and fought in a 17-hour Battle of Mogadishu firefight (commonly known as Black Hawk Down).
On May 4, 2009 Jeremy married Heather R Greening in Gilbert, Arizona. They celebrated with a larger celebration on March 20, 2010.
In 2010 Jeremy joined the Arizona Army National Guard. His service included a deployment to Torkham, Afghanistan in 2010 - 2011. While in Afghanistan, Jeremy’s unit was the backup communications team the night that Osama Bin Laden was captured.
His most recent deployment was to Jordan in 2018 – 2019. While there he had the opportunity to visit many local historical and secular sites.
Jeremy loved serving our country and was a very accomplished and recognized soldier. The awards he earned are many. He was slated to retire from the military in April, 2025. In preparation for his career after retirement, Jeremy focused his attention in the Information Technology field, acquiring certifications and additional education.
Jeremy had a passion for telling jokes, playing trivia and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeye’s. While his joke telling was often overwhelming, it is something that is missed the most among all of us. His impact on others’ lives is extraordinary and he will be dearly missed by so many family, friends and acquaintances.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Heather, mother JoAnn Mathews, father and stepmother Gary and Joan Kerr. He is also survived by his brothers Jake Kerr (Angie), Adam (Heather) Kerr, Alex Kerr and sisters Carey Mathews and Jessica (Frances) Mathews, niece Jenna Kerr and nephews Evan Kerr, Owen Kerr and Theo Kerr as well as extended aunts, uncles, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Jack Mathews and grandparents.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 8th at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, 6747 E Broadway Road, Mesa, AZ 85206. Visitation from 9 am to 11 am, service at 11 am followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Three Rangers Foundation can be made.
