Jean was born in Crosby, England (a suburb of Liverpool) in 1923. During World War II, Jean served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (RAF). She enlisted in July of 1942, after turning 18, and was discharged in August of 1946. Amongst other duties, she served in the Far East as part of Lord Mountbatten’s team.
After the war, Jean and a friend moved to London where they lived and worked for several years. In January of 1953, she and this same friend decided to emigrate to Canada. While crossing the Atlantic on the SS United States, she met her future husband, Albert Larsen. They were married in October of that same year and settled in Longview, Washington.
In 1985, Jean and her husband decided to retire to Arizona. Unfortunately, her husband passed away suddenly just before his retirement. Jean made the decision to go ahead and move to Arizona and enjoyed many years of a happy and active life there. Most of those years were in Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, where she had many friends. She loved to travel and was an avid Bridge player for many years.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bessie Withey. Her husband Albert, her brother David, sister Patricia (Pat) and brother John.
Jean is survived by her daughter Janet (Overfelt), son Steve and many nieces and nephews and their families who loved her dearly.
In lieu of a memorial service, we ask that you please cherish the memories you have of Jean. For the many friends and family who attended her 100th birthday party, that was her real Celebration of Life. The best part was, she was there to enjoy it with you.
A special thanks to Hospice of the West. Specifically, Donna, Sonja and Jamie who took such loving care of her, especially in her final days.
