James “Jim” Arthur Prom of Mesa, AZ passed away February 3, 2020 at the age of 83. He was born August 9, 1936 in Albert Lea, MN to Arthur Andrew and Laura Evelyn (Johnson) Prom. Jim met the love of his life, Elaine Fuller, at John Marshall High School in Rochester, MN where they both worked as teachers. Jim and Elaine later married on June 24, 1967, started their family and were blessed with two children, Margot and Mark. After their marriage, Jim went to work as an Art Professor at Rochester Community College. He attended Mankato State University (MSU) and earned his degrees in Art and Business. He later earned his master’s degree in ceramics at MSU and attended Arizona State University for additional graduate education in art. As a young man, he was very active participant in plays at the Summerstock Theater in Minnesota and in his later years, he enjoyed acting with the Rochester Civic Theater and with the theater group at Leisure World in Mesa, AZ. During Jim’s career he especially enjoyed serving as the President of the Art Educators of Minnesota and as a volunteer with the Rochester Art Center. Jim loved painting, mostly landscapes, but would also paint portraits of family members. He retired in 1995 and he and Elaine would travel to Arizona for the winters, eventually becoming permanent residents of Mesa. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Elaine Prom; his daughter, Margot (David Corlett) Richardson-Corlett; grandson Kyle Evan Richardson; his sister Joyce (Donald) Adams; sister-in-law, Diane Prom, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, Arthur and Laura Prom; his son, Mark A. Prom, and his brother, David B. Prom, preceded him in death. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
