James Alonzo McCallen, 92 years of age passed away in Chandler, AZ on April 30, 2012. He was born on December 22, 1919 in Caldwell, Idaho, to John Clay and Seba Florence Grove McCallen. Jim married Alice Knight in Tacoma, WA on April 25, 1942. They were married for 56 years, until her death in 1998. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Noni McCallen Hatch. He is survived by his son Steve McCallen and his wife Sandy, of Mesa, AZ, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Jim served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a B17 bombardier in the 8th Air Force, completing 30 missions over Europe. After the war, Jim farmed in Idaho and then moved his family to Oregon in 1951 where he worked in the lumber business in Brownsville, OR, and retired from Bohemia Lumber in Eugene, OR, in 1985. During his retirement he cared for his wife through a lengthy illness and then enjoyed several years living in his cabin on the McKenzie River. He relocated to Mesa, AZ, in Dec. 2007 to be close to his family and enjoy a warm and dry climate. Jim is lovingly remembered by all of his family and will be interred in Phoenix at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on June 29, 2012.
