James “Jim” Hanley, son of John and Rosemary, brother of Rosemary (Robert James), Anna (John Pappas), and John (Frannie Cardascio), passed away peacefully with family and friends around him on November 5, 2022.
Jim was born and raised in Chicago, and after graduating from Brother Rice High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam and other locations around the world. While in San Diego, he met his wife of almost 53 years, Katherine (nee Weakly) and a year later they were married. He was a devoted husband and father to 3 children, John (Stephanie Hanley), Theresa (Barry DeSilva), and Kevyn (Kristie Hanley). He also loved spending time with his grandchildren PJ, Kevyn (Ashley Hanley), Lauren, Katherine, Amanda, Matthew, Anthony, Marie, and Emma, great grandchildren Leia and Kevyn, and nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
After retiring from Commonwealth Edison after 37 years, Jim moved to New Lenox and spent the summers in Illinois and North Carolina and the winters in Arizona. He was passionate about coaching youth sports, especially baseball, working on cars and projects around the house, playing golf, working at the Oakland A’s and Chicago Cubs spring training facilities, and reading military novels, and the most important to him was his family.
