On October 14th James Edward Garrett left this earth after a sudden illness. He was born on June 2, 1929 in Six Mile, SC. He is survived by his brother, Bill; his wife of 57 years, Edith; his son, Steve; and three grandchildren, Steven, Travis, and Jessica, as well as numerous Great-Grandchildren. James spent 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired in 1971. Prior to his military career, he attended Clemson University, and after retiring, he went back to school on the GI Bill and obtained his BS and MS degrees at Virginia State University, where he went on to teach for a number of years thereafter. He was very generous with his time and did volunteer work for a number of organizations to include the suicide prevention hotline, Contact, where he donated over 1600 hours of his time. James impacted so many people because of his generosity and kindness. He loved his wife and family and, in this world he was the rarest of rare things, a genuinely good man. He was firm in his beliefs and had no doubts about what comes after this life. For those of us who had the privilege of knowing him well, he will be sorely missed.
