Remembering Cousin Jim today and cherishing the memories.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Jim. He was a great man who I was proud to call my friend. I came to know Jim in the days that he was general manager at Mesa spirit and we clicked immediately and began our working relationship. I respected this man as he was truly a man of his word his integrity was unmatched his kindness I am so sorry to hear the news of his passing. Jim gave back more than he ever took in this world being a Navy seal and his years of service to this country and later on as a boy Scott leader mentoring young men. He was a great manager and construction man for the Dunkel family at Mesa spirit. Although I lost contact with Jim in the last couple of years I never lost my respect for a friend who is always good to me. My wife Shiann and I are saddened to hear the news of his passing.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I didn't know Jim very well but it does sound like he was a pretty remarkable man.  I am Lillian Jacobson's granddaughter.  My mother Dorothy was LIllian's daughter.  My cousin Nancy Hindenach sent me this obituary.

Jim’s name was legendary in our family - both due to his service to our country and his commitment to family.  I do remember one summer years ago when he came to visit family in Montague, MI.  We played badminton together and, while the age gap was wide, we kids were thoroughly destroyed by the dominant Navy Seal.  We were just in awe of him, and will continue to be, even after his passing.  Although we did not know each other well, I’m so incredibly proud to call him my family.  My heart and love goes out to his family and friends.

Jim was always someone that would put others first.  Whether scuba diving with others, or hiking or motorcycling, Jim was always someone that had what someone else forgot. He saved many wayward hikers in the Superstition  mountains  whether he knew them or not. Always had extra water or helped them in ways that many times helped their survival. Small in stature but but the biggest man I ever met. 

We are so sad to hear of Jim's passing. We have so many great memories of our times spent with Jim and Clara Louise at Deer Lake, exploring, swimming, avoiding the snapping turtles in the pond, picking rocks and duck eggs, baking cookies and listening to stories of the old days with Great Aunt Louise. Jim and Clara always welcomed us city kids and shared their generous hearts and homes. Jim was a great kid, always looking out for Sis, and a loving caring adult. He brought scuba and snorkel gear up to our lake so our kids to have their first diving experience. So many adventures! We are so thankful for our time with Jim. We will miss Jim and look forward to seeing him again. Our condolences to Judy, Clara and family.
