Ian Elder passed away on November 27th, at the age of 74, in his hometown of Mesa, Arizona. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years concluded with an unexpected heart failure after being admitted to Banner Heart Hospital the previous day. Even though a failing heart took him from this world too soon, his love will continue in the Family, Friends and Co-workers who will miss him dearly.
Ian was born in his Grand Parents home in Leven, Scotland to James Walker Elder and Mary Jane Elizabeth Beetson Elder.
Ian’s first Love was music. He started singing at a young age and was a member of many groups over the years such as the Ardennes, Ian and the Echos, and Solitaire. Many a party was graced with his singing and playing the guitar.
His first Love led him to his second, Patricia Taylor Elder. They first met at a Church youth dance in 1963 where he was singing in a group with his friends. He knew right away that he would spend the rest of his life with her as he told his father that she was the girl he was going to marry. Ian and Patricia had many adventures all around the world in their 53 years of marriage.
His third love was his career in the Semiconductor Industry starting with General Instruments in Glenrothes, Scotland. This led him to a leadership position in National Semiconductor in Greenock. When the factory burned to the ground in 1977 he was given a temporary assignment in San Jose, California while rebuilding. This initiated his desire to relocate to the United States when an opportunity presented itself. Since then he worked for various semiconductor companies in many states with his last work assignment in Malaysia. Ian took great pride in leading a successful team and valued the many friendships made on the journey.
Ian is survived by his loving wife Patricia, his children Gary and Carol-Anne, His grand children Kelsey, Ian, Jayden, Carter, Gianna, and Isabella. His sister Elaine Ritchie, and cousin Elizabeth Simpson.
