Gwendolyn (Gwen) was born on March 3, 1952, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Willie Hammonds and Servilla Bates. Gwen graduated from South Mountain High School and received her Associate of Arts degree in Communications from Phoenix Community College. She continued her education at San Jose State University in Drama and at Arizona State University in Communications. Gwen married Tyrone Franklin in 1985 and was blessed with one child, Trivianne Franklin.
Gwen became a member of the Sokka Gakkai International over 35 years ago. She enjoyed gardening, watching her favorite TV programs, and spending time with her daughter. Her encouragement and friendship touched the hearts of many people. Gwen is survived by her daughter Dr. Trivianne Franklin, and her siblings Oliver, Gerald, and Sylvia Bates.
