He was preceded in death by his parents Leo Guenthner (1981) and Shirley Guenthner (2013). He is survived by his brother, Denis Guenthner of Shoreview, MN; his sister, Janet Broer of Queen Creek, AZ; his ex-wife, Valere Knight of Tempe, AZ; his daughter, Lea Guenthner of Chattanooga, TN; his son, Earl Guenthner of Chandler, AZ; his four grandchildren, Candace Apolinar of Round Rock, TX; Jonathan Apolinar of Round Rock, TX; Madelyn Sapielak of Chattanooga, TN, and Adele “Gray” Sapielak of Chattanooga, TN; and his great-grandchild Apolinar/Moreno due in August 2022.
Gordon was born May 16, 1951 in Redfield, South Dakota and graduated from Redfield High School in 1969. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1973. He received his Master of Science in Engineering degree with a Computer Science major from Arizona State University in 1981. He retired from his employment with General Dynamics in 2018.
Gordon loved fishing and hunting small game (quail, dove, duck and pheasant). He enjoyed sci-fi movies, television shows and books. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan and rarely missed watching a game. He enjoyed cooking on the grill for family and friends.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on March 12, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 South Dobson Road, Mesa, Arizona 85202.
