George Daniel Sharp of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2013. George was born August 14th 1946 in Santa Monica, California to George and Glady (Rose) Sharp. He was raised in Torrance, CA. George was a decorated track and field star at West Torrance High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy. He defended his country in Vietnam and was decorated with 2 Bronze Stars and 1 Silver Star. After the Navy he received his degree from Long Beach State. George met the love of his life Dorothy Jane “Doti” Martinez and they were married in Las Vegas, on October 18th 1969 at the Little White Wedding Chapel. In 1972 he was accepted into the Los Angeles Police Department. He spent his career as a dedicated police officer. In 1970 their first daughter was born- Danielle Layne and in 1976 their 2nd daughter Taryn Nicole was born. George and Doti raised their family in Whittier, California and moved to Gilbert Arizona after George retired from the LAPD.
George was a devout Christian and raised his family with his faith and conviction. George was a musical prodigy. He had a love and passion for music that was contagious. With the ability to play any instrument by ear he brought music to everyone who knew him. His sense of humor drew people to him. He was generous and gave what he had to those who were in need. George was a man of honesty and integrity and a role model for his 4 beloved grandchildren. Connor, Cole, Raegan & Callie. He will be deeply missed by all.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 3:00pm at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park 6747 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206.
