George Walter Schmitt

George Walter Schmitt, born July 21, 1936 in Saegertown, PA to George William and Thora Esther [Davis] Schmitt, passed away June 23, 2011 in Mesa, AZ at the age of 74. George was a member of many organizations such as the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #19 as a Past Master, an Elk’s Club Officer, the V.F.W, American Legion, Lion’s Club, Boy Scout helper and father, the Asst. Coach of the Bobby Sox Softball, as well as a faithful member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mesa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved telling jokes, golfing, cooking and playing gin. George is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara; daughters Susan (Bill) Shepard, Sandra (Scott) Jarvis, and Stephanie (Nick) McDonough; sons George Daniel (Robin) and Michael (Nicole) Schmitt; brothers Ralph Watson, George Watson and Howard (Nancy) Schmitt and grandchildren Tony, Abby, Joey, Zach, Danitza, Malone, Griffin, Emily, George and Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Watson. Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. An interment service will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ in Phoenix and the Celebration of his life will be at 5:00 pm, June 30 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
