Gaye Jordan Dixon was freed from the burden of Alzheimers on Saturday, October 3rd. 2015. Gaye was born in Hernshaw WV on March 21, 1923 to Oather and Mary Bell Jordan. Gaye left home at age 16 and began working at the Owens Illinois glass plant in Charleston, WV. In August 1943, Gaye joined the US Navy and attained the rank of Pharmacists Mate 3rd Class before receiving her discharge in December 1944. Gaye met and married Bill Dixon while in the Navy. Through the years, Gaye and Bill were partners in all they did, from owning and operating a lumber and molding mill in Snowflake to owning and operating two large mobile home parks in Tucson, all the while raising their two daughters and helping them care for their children. Gaye was preceded in death by Bill in 2010. Gaye is survived by her daughters, Sharon Dixon and Mary Coonrod, grandchildren Shannon Vollborn and Robert Coonrod, and great granddaughter Katie Dixon. Over the last years of her life, Gaye was lovingly cared for by a variety of caregivers (Traci, Tammi, Nimfa, Jose, Wayne, to name just a few). After breaking her hip this September, she moved to Caring Hearts Assisted Living where she was welcomed with love by Sabi and her staff. Thank you Sabi for being the one to provide the love and comfort that allowed Gaye to finally relax, let go, and move on to the next journey. The family will have a short graveside service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Rather than flowers, the family suggests donations to the Desert Southwest Alzheimers Association.
