Floyd Nerem Hanson passed away January 28, 2012 at Banner-Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Arizona after a short illness. He was born August 6, 1916 near Garden City, Hardin County, Iowa to Gust and Julia (Nerem) Hanson.
At an early age the family moved to a farm near Nicollet, Minnesota where he graduated from Mankato High School in 1933. He attended Mankato State College and began his career working as a set-up manager for Piggly Wiggly Grocery Stores around the Midwest.
Floyd enlisted in the US Navy in June of 1941 and was discharged after being injured in February, 1942.
He was united in marriage on June 14, 1942 to Lucille Baird. For the remainder of World War II Floyd worked at the Glen L. Martin Bomber plant in Omaha, Nebraska. He served on a special crew installing equipment in the B-29 project.
Floyd and his family moved to Worthington, Minnesota in 1946 where he worked as an electrician in the construction industry. In 1967 he became a vocational technical instructor in the electrical field. He later became an electrical inspector for the City of Minneapolis, retiring in 1985. He worked part-time for Electrical Testing Laboratories as an inspector until 1995.
He was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Shrine for 49 years. Floyd and Lucille moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1996 and remained there until their death. They were members of Apache Wells Community Church in Mesa.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, parents Gust and Julia, and older brother Earl. He is survived by his daughter Beverly (Dean) Summerbell of East Bethel, Minnesota, two grandsons; Scott (Teresa) and Mike (Sarah) both of Andover, Minnesota and four great granddaughters; Erin, Grace, Annika, and Mackenzie.
A memorial service for Floyd Hanson will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Fellowship Square in Mesa In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Floyd’s name may be made to Apache Wells Community Church, Fellowship Square of Mesa or the charity of the donors choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Melcher Mortuary Mission Chapel & Crematory, Mesa, AZ.
