Esther F. Siemens, sweetheart and wife of Dr. David F. Siemens, Jr., left us June 9, 2013, at 7:41 p.m. She was born May 29, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, on the first wedding anniversary of her parents, Robert and Frances Wilson Mahaffey. The family moved to North Tarrytown, New York, where she graduated from high school. During this time she was active in the Salvation Army. The family moved back to Cleveland, where most of her cousins lived. She graduated from Ft. Wayne Bible Institute and Defiance College, later taking numerous additional classes at various colleges and universities. On September 21, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, she married her husband. She is survived by her husband, two children, David F. Siemens, III, and Laurel Siemens Moore, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One granddaughter, Victoria, preceded her in death, as did her only brother, Lyle, a Marine killed during the 1943 assault on Tarawa Atoll. Esther was a successful teacher on the levels of adult classes, junior high and elementary school. After retiring,, she helped care for her grandchildren. There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Salvation Army (P.O. Box 4106, Mesa, AZ 85211) or American Bible Society (1865 Broadway, New York, NY 10023).
