Ellen H. Black

Ellen Black’s final journey commenced on January 26, 2014 after complications from surgery.

Born in Pittsburgh PA on February 24, 1935, Ellen was the daughter of Victor & Mildred Hansen. Ellen and her treasured husband Roy retired to Mesa Arizona in 1992.

Ellen was an incredible woman and those of us that crossed her path were in awe of her keen intellect, quick wit, bountiful kindness and generous spirit. Ellen touched our lives in numerous ways and when you spoke with her she had a special gift of making you feel like the most important person in her life. She showed abundant grace and taught us life lessons that will forever grow in our hearts.

Ellen was the President of Pleasant Valley PTA, President of the McMurray Century Club and Secretary of the Sunland East Board of Directors.

We recent found a quote that she had written in a paper at the age of 16 that perfectly displays her insight. “True friendship is a wonderful thing. If it is built on sincerity, truth, love and companionship, it can really be a thing cherished for years. I believe that friendship is an important stepping stone to a fine character. If a person gains just one true friend, he has achieved one of the greatest accomplishments of his life”

Ellen is survived by her sons Jay (Cathy) and Jon; daughter Janice and also her grandsons, Justin Czemerda, Daniel Czemerda and David Whalen .

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Roy, married for 46 years before his passing in 2004; her brother Victor Hansen and sister Lee Hodan.

She will be missed greatly, far more than her humble humility would allow her to expect.

Ellen had a great gift for creating special moments into enduring memories – this is truly her lasting legacy.

A visitation will be held at 1 o’clock pm with services following at 2 o’clock pm, on Friday January 31st at Mariposa Gardens located at 400 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206. A reception at her home for family & friends immediately following the service.
