Born in Bellevue Hospital of New York City March 5,1930 to Thelma Weaver and Walter Mack; Dolores was raised by her grandparents Isaac and Anna Weaver in Trenton, New Jersey. Dolores was educated in the Trenton NJ Catholic school system. After graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic High School at the age of 17, Dolores left for Chicago.
Dolores began her long and prosperous career almost immediately upon arriving in Chicago. She secured a job as a salesperson at Marshall Fields and rose to the position of bookkeeper in the accounting department. After ten years working at Marshall Fields, Dolores moved on to an accounting position at a local bank.
In 1962, Dolores married Paul Harris Sr. They welcomed their son, Paul Jr. in 1964 while helping to raise Kevin Harris, Paul Sr’s son from a previous marriage.
Always in pursuit of new opportunities, Dolores took a position as a manager at McDonalds which she held for many years. Additionally, Dolores pursued opportunities in real estate purchasing residential rental properties. She owned a vacation home on Lake Michigan where she enjoyed many summers with family and friends.
Dolore’s passion for travel took her to visit relatives in New Jersey, Ohio and Virginia regularly. Over twenty years, she would escape the harshness of Chicago’s winters traveling out of the country to Acapulco, Mexico. Dolores loved basking in its warm sun. While in Acapulco, she would rent condos to friends from Chicago. Dolores was quite the entrepreneur.
Retiring in 2012 from managing her real estate properties in Chicago, Dolores relocated to Chandler, Arizona to be closer to her son Paul and enjoy the warmer climate.
Dolores, though petite in stature, was a spirited “force to be reckoned with”. A woman of strong faith, a loving wife and mother, a devoted friend, a gifted conversationalist, and an astute businesswoman she was warm-hearted with a great sense of humor. Dolores was the longest living member of the Weaver family. She is survived by her son Paul W. Harris Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; stepson Kevin P. Harris and his wife Elana Harris of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; their children Hayley and “KP” Harris her beloved grandchildren; her brother Thomas Singleton and his wife Pamela Singleton; they’re daughters Whitney and DeAndrea Singleton and a host of family and friends living throughout the country.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held for Dolores at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, 400 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206 on May 23rd at 2pm PST. There will be a Zoom Link emailed out to those family members attending digitally.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Dolores Cristina Harris to Always Present Hospice, 1400 North Gilbert Road, Gilbert, AZ 85234.
May Dolores Rest in Peace.
