David Howland Shurr (88), passed away on February 8, 2018. He was born on August 1, 1929 in Oswego, NY and was the only child of Albert and Lois (Lee) Shurr. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Loretta (Slavens) Shurr, better known as Wendy. He is also survived by sons David (Karen) Shurr and John (Kathy) Shurr as well as six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A mechanic with Capital Airlines in Washington D.C., David and Wendy transferred to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1961 when Capital merged with United Airlines. He retired as an inspector in the turbine shop at SFO in 1994. They made Palo Alto their home for most of their time in California. He took to running in his late 40’s highlighted by completing multiple marathons in Kauai, HI. He continued to run assorted races over the years and participated in the Senior Olympics once they retired to the town of Wendy’s childhood, Fowler, IN. They returned to Mesa in 2016 to be closer to family. Services are scheduled for Saturday, February at 11am at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Road, Mesa.
