Dave was born in Lansing, MI on 24 April 1941 and grew up in Portland, MI. Dave had a lifelong passion for languages and classical music, nurturing both while attending Aquinas College and serving as Program Director for Radio Station WXTO.
Dave’s passion for language was subsequently channeled into a career spent serving and defending our country. This was done first in the Air Force, and then as a civilian for the National Security Agency; earning the Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
Following retirement Dave developed an interest in golf and was known to play regulation courses with only a putter; scoring several holes-in-one in the process. Dave loved wearing red; smiling whenever approached by a child and asked about being Santa Claus.
Dave was quick to strike up a conversation with family, friends, and strangers alike. Always ready with a story or joke, but also ready to listen; making everyone feel as though they were an important part of the family. Dave was generous with time, money, and thrift store finds (some-times a little too generous).
Dave was preceded in death by parents: Leonard Huhn and Rose Marie Thelen, older brother Gary Huhn, brothers-in-law: Richard Egan and Fred Karasinski, and partner Kitty McCormick.
Dave is survived by children: Heidi (Tom) Johnson, and David (Kelly) Huhn; grandchildren: Jenny (Eric) Jordan, Mark Johnson, Eric Johnson, and Abby Huhn; siblings: Marcia (Roger) Roty, Linda Egan, Noreen Karasinski, and Denice (Tom) Hansen; as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Dave will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MI. A celebration of life will be held later in the year.
