Carol was born on June 9, 1966 in Webster, South Dakota to Elwood and Beverly Anderson. She spent her childhood on her family farm in Cogswell, North Dakota. She graduated from Sargent Central Highschool in Forman, North Dakota. Carol attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota studying children's education. She graduated 1996 from Colorado Christian University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Information Systems.
In 1986, Carol and Tony infamously met at a youth group event and the rest was history. They married on June 25th, 1988 at Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota. Carol and Tony relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1989 where they bought their first home and welcomed their first born daughter, Kirstin in March 1990. In 1992 they bought a business called Mountain Pine Carpet Cleaning Company. Keeping the name, they became the main owners and slowly gained employees and lifelong friends along the way. In 1994, her second daughter Kari was born. Making the decision together after Tony was called by God, they moved the family to Dubuque, Iowa for Tony to attend Wartburg Theological Seminary in 1996. Carol worked in the Development Department as an IT Administrator. Her involvement in Women’s Ministry and Outreach blossomed as she dug deeper into her faith alongside Tony. His first call at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church brought the family to Mount Vernon, Illinois in 2000. There she was first employed at Walgreens Distribution Center, then became the Technology Teacher at Casey Middle School so she was able to have the same schedule as her girls. In 2004, Carol and Tony decided to take their next call at First Lutheran Church in Redlands, California. She worked at University of Redlands as a Database Administrator until she needed to go on Disability later on. Around 2006 she had her first spinal surgery to help with her chronic pain from degenerative disc disease. Shortly after she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia as well. In 2007, she and Tony took the next call at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Garden Grove, California. Carol became an imperative part of the outreach ministry in the Garden Grove community, as well as helping to raise her Grandson Grayson when he was born to Kirstin in 2010. After lots of praying, God called Carol and Tony away from their girls in California to Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona at the start of 2019.
Throughout her life, Carol was devoted to loving God and sharing that love with everyone around her. Carol enjoyed being involved in her Church and faith was one of the most important parts of her life. She liked to assist Tony with the duties of ministry and was fulfilled most by helping others. This was apparent in the way she organized hospitality programs at each of the congregations she was a part of. Carol loved to be with her friends who distracted her from her chronic pain. She enjoyed reading just about everything, cooking, and gardening when she wasn’t taking care of others. She was also an avid collector and loved crafty tchotchkes. Carol will be remembered by all as being kind and with open arms. She was empathetic and selfless, and was able to change peoples’ lives for the better. She is incredibly loved and very much missed.
Carol is survived by her husband Tony; her daughters Kirstin (Andrew) Maltese of Orange, California, and Kari (Matthew) Stachowiak of Seal Beach, California; and her grandchildren Grayson and Sofia Maltese; and her sister Marilyn Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents Elwood and Beverly Anderson of Cogswell, South Dakota.
