Carl Barger, son of Elmer and Eva Barger was born March 1, 1915, in Eddyville, Illinois. As a young man growing up Carl attended school and worked on the family farm. While living there he learned the art of bricklaying. In 1943 he joined the Army Air Corp and served as a Tail Gunner on B-17's during World War II. He flew many missions over Germany. He was stationed in England during most of the war. He served from 1943-1945. After the war Carl returned to bricklaying and worked in that profession for over 40 years. Two daughters were born to Ester and Carl: Linda in 1946 and Brenda in 1949. They lived in Harrisburg, Illinois during this time. Ester and Carl enjoyed traveling in their motor home visiting their many brothers and sisters and other family members. They also enjoyed attending numerous church reunions. Carl served as a Lay Minister, holding the office of Priest in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as the Community of Christ. Esther and Carl were ardent workers in the church and were host to many missionaries that came to their congregation. Esther and Carl moved to Tucson in the early 90's and were active in the church there. They later moved to Mesa. Esther passed away in December 2009. They were married almost 70 years. Carl passed away May 25, 2011 in Mesa, Arizona. He is survived by daughters Linda and Brenda, grandchildren: Jeff, Heather, Scott, Joe and Maria and by hour great grand children as well as a host of friends.
