Arthur L. Shackelford, "Shack", was born in. Columbus Ohio on September 27, 1941 and raised in Delaware Ohio. He graduated from Willis High School in Delaware in 1959 and then joined the United States Air Force in 1960,He was stationed in Ohio, Vietnam, Florida, Germany, and Arizona as well as temporary duty to countless locations around the world. In 1979 Shack moved to Williams AFB Arizona and then retired from the USAF in 1980. In Arizona he discovered a love for hiking that brought him to 25 Grand Canyon Rim to Rims hikes. He hiked over 400 miles of the Arizona Trail as well as triathlons, mud runs, countless 5Ks, ½ and full marathons.
Shack is survived by his wife Glenda, son Steven Shackelford (Angie) daughter Vickie Jones (Dave), step children Terri McColm and Kenneth Gerces, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Three sisters Shelda Eishen, Linda Hug and Dora Hackett. In 1986 Shack received Christ as Savior and developed a deep love for God. In retirement he and Glenda traveled to all 50 states, and he made a good effort to climb the highest peak in many of the states he visited. He loved his yard, garden and raising chickens. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Shack was willing to volunteer when needed. He could often be found helping out an elderly neighbor or anyone that needed help. He leaves a wonderful legacy of the friendships he developed through the years. Shack was loved much and will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Christian Fellowship, 50 south McQueen Road, Chandler, Arizona. A reception will be held at the church after the service.
