Al was born to Al and Dorothy Taylor of Malta, Montana and moved to Farmington, Minnesota and started the Long X Ranch. Later, moving to Princeton, Minnesota having horses in the Onamia "Nicks Indian Post" and the Isle "Izatys Resort" area. There he gave trail rides and was involved in the Rodeos and Chuckwagons as a kid with is two brothers Rick and Pete and one sister Lorene.
He attended Evergreen Bible Camp and Woodward Brook 4-H. Attending Princeton schools K-12. Later went on to Anoka Vo-Tec for Parts Management. He worked at Holiday gas station in Princeton with his brother Rick, who was always his best friend. He started out working in parts locally then for Hopkins Honda in Golden Valley. He opened up his own parts store, Horizon Imports, in St. Paul for two years. Then one day Rudy Luther himself called Al and asked him to come manage the parts department for Rudy Luther's Toyota, he did and was there for 33 years. He loved working there and had a great crew of which he had many great memories with.
Al was introduced to his wife Debbie by her brother, Dave Pino. It was truly love at first sight for the both of them. They went on to raise three sons, Gregg, Kyle, and Erik. They were also blessed with a wonderful daughter-in-law, Lisa Banks. Al and Debbie enjoyed seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Autumn, AJ, Ariel, Jasmine, Luna, and Erik Jr. With a great granddaughter due this coming July.
Al was a great dad. He was the fun dad that introduced the boys to the first video games that ever came out and all the ones after that. They were big into bikes, dirt bikes and motorcycles and skateboards. They put on so many miles riding their bikes through the Maple Grove and Champlin bike trails. The boys grew up listening to Al's favorite music, The Beatles. Al loved music and knew all the names of the the bands, their members and songs. He had a special relationship with each one of his sons, each one unique and different. With Gregg, it was music and Nascar. With Kyle, it was collecting sports cards, cars, and their same sick sense of humor for adult animated comedy, like South Park, Family Guy, and Metalocalypse. With Erik, it was bikes, motorcycles, and animals. Al loved all the animals that Erik brough home, but one in particular was our cat "Fast Eddie". He was Al's constant companion. A cat that rarely ever made noise now meows all the time. I know he misses him as much as we do.
Al and Debbie were blessed with 47 years of love and humor. He loved cars owning many classic cars and to this day his pride was his 63' Bonneville Station Wagon. Lucky for Al that Debbie enjoyed the cars just as much as he did. Debbie knew more about cars than most women. They loved going to car shows and taking Sunday afternoon drives. Being a car buff again he was a wealth of car knowledge as well as his other interests Nascar, football, and war history. We had built a pole barn at our house in Princeton. His son Kyle said, "if you ever needed anything dad had it and probably 10 of them".
During their marriage, Al and Debbie were able to do some traveling to Maui, Hawaii (twice), the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Yellowstone, and Las Vegas. Al also went to Canada fishing with Pennzoil for many years.
In 1988, Al fell at work leaving him with a lifetime of pain from his injuries. In 2011, he had surgery for a cyst in his spine. It left him paralyzed from the chest down, but eventually he learned to walk again. Then five years ago, he was diagnosed with more cysts in his spine. Operating would have been immediate paralysis. He became paraplegic in 2021. At the very end, he had several broken bones in his back and became bedridden. Throughout all his pain, everyday he still made Debbie laugh and smile and loved her as much as she loved him. When he passed his family was with him.
Al will always be remembered for his personality and sense of humor. If you hear a Beatles song, you think of him. When he walked into a room you'd hear "Alfie". He was the life of the party!
