He was born Sandor Szucs in Nyirmada, Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg, Hungary on May 15,
1932 to Sandor and Jolan (nee Barta) Szucs and immigrated to Canada, via Austria in
1957. He moved his family to Mesa, Arizona in 1971 where he remained a resident for
the last 49 years. He is dearly loved and will be missed by his daughters Freda (Nick)
Moeller, Elizabeth Troutman Lear (John Vanda), Diana (Joel) Richomme and Silvia
Szucs (Rudy Eidenbock) and grandchildren Joy Riley, Christopher (Megan) Moeller,
Jennifer (Eric) Fuhrmann, Sara (Ryan) Turley, Lisa (Kevin) Thomas, Jessica (Travis)
Stevens, Alexandra Richomme (Noel Raine) and Norman Richomme. In recent years,
he found great joy in spoiling great grandchildren Madison & Emily Riley, Edie & Allie
Fuhrman, Michael, Logan & Natalie Thomas, and Beckett & Everett Stevens with the
candies he stashed in his pockets, ice cream drumsticks and lots of hugs. Family
acquired by love include Julia (John Shanahan), Jocelyn (Greg Melhuish) and Katie
Lear as well as Sydney (Kevin) Ballentyne and Josue (Bernice) Escamilla and their
children Luke Shanahan, Finn Melhuish and Caitlin Lear, Aidan, Asher and Nick Heflich
and Kenya Escamilla. Close to his heart were many cousins, nieces and nephews but
he shared a special relationship with George Szucs Jr. He is survived by brother Bert
Szucs of Alberta, Canada and sister-in-law Joan Hewitt Szucs of Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
Andres and Laszlo.
Alex trained as a tailor in Hungary, was a designer at Winnipeg Leather, a business
owner in Arizona and a man of many talents. He built several houses including a cabin
at Lake Winnipeg, could fix nearly anything and was talented in the kitchen and the
garden. He loved to read and in the last couple of years enjoyed social media to stay in
touch with friends and family across the world. Alex was a source of wisdom and
strength for his family and will be greatly missed. " A private burial will be held at
Mariposa Gardens in Mesa, AZ on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 2 pm and live
