She was born to the late Santiago Madrid and Josefina Lizarraga Madrid on November 6, 1930 in Mesa, Arizona, the fifth of seven children. She was a graduate of Bisbee (Arizona) High School, Class of 1950.
She married the late Mario Lopez Jr in 1957 in Los Angeles, California, and relocated to Tempe, Arizona in 1975. Adela is survived by two children: Mario Lopez III (Vicky) of Gilbert, Arizona and Susen Adcox (J Douglas) of Queen Creek, Arizona. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Shonna Funk (Michael) of Queen Creek, Arizona, and Shelby Massey of Queen Creek, Arizona, two great-grandchildren Peyton Funk and Madden Funk, and a sister, Phyllis Garcia, of Pasadena, California. Adela was predeceased by her loving husband in 2005.
Adela was an avid baseball fan, beginning as a Dodger fan and then becoming a devoted Arizona Diamondbacks fan. She was proud to be one of the founding members of the Iris Club in Bisbee, Arizona. Adela had a flair for fashion and interior décor. Adela was immensely proud of her family and her many friends whom she cherished, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Mariposa Gardens Funeral Home in Mesa, Arizona. A Catholic Mass will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mesa, Arizona. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona.
The family suggests donations to Adela’s favorite charity St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in lieu of flowers.
