Addie Lee Cerre Jacobs was born on December 16, 1937. She was a member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma. Her Mother was Delphine Rhodd of Poncas City and her step-father was Thurman Rhodd. She passed away on November 6, 2023 at her daughter's home in Mesa AZ. She was 85 years old.
Addie Lee was born in Ponca City Oklahoma. She attended school in Kay County Oklahoma through middle school. After completing middle school she attended Chilocco Indian HIgh School and graduated from there in 1956. She met Ralph Louis Marcus at Chilocco and married him in 1957. After marrying Ralph, she moved to the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation in southern Arizona. Her five children were born in Tucson and Sells. She lived there until 1966 when she moved to Phoenix AZ. She was later married to Francis Dutch Jacobs up until his death in 1994.
Addie Lee worked at Phoenix Indian High School as a dorm attendant and a clerk in the nursing office. She also worked at the Phoenix Area Indian Health Service Office. While working and raising her children she attended Gateway Community College and eventually graduated from Nursing School in 1993. She worked at Phoenix Indian Medical Center as an Registered Nurse. She enjoyed nursing immensely and servicing the native american community. She retired from PIMC in 1998. Addie always wanted to return to her home in Oklahoma to be near her family.
Addie Lee was a master seamstress and beadworker. She designed and made many wedding dresses and traditional Ponca clothing. She worked for a brief time in Cambridge MA as a seamstress for a wedding boutique until she returned back home to care for her grandmother, Ellen Roy Cerre. While working as a seamstress she was able to travel to New York and New Jersey to shop for fabric as well as assist with the dressing of the brides for their wedding She was a lifelong member of the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church in White Eagle Oklahoma and attended the church while living in Oklahoma.
Beginning in the early 70's, Addie Lee was a member of the Central Plains Indian Club in Phoenix AZ. She made many lifelong friends and travelled with the club to attend native american events as well as powwows across the southwest. She was also an avid bowler and bowled regularly with her husband Dutch who also introduced her to pool.
Addie Lee is preceded in death by her mother Delphine Rhodd, Step father Thurman Rhodd, Grandparents Ellen Roy Cerre and Ben Cerre, sons Thomas Paul Marcus and Ralph Marcus. She is survived by her spouse Walter Rosborough of OK, children, Wayne Marcus and wife Liza Vest of Phoenix AZ, Sara Harris and her husband Monte Harris of Shawnee OK, and Sacena Marcus of Mesa Arizona. She also had adopted children whom she dearly loved, Dawn Buffalohead of Marland OK, Denise Siemens of Oklahoma City, OK, Greg and Michelle Hansen of Phoenix AZ and Tom Jackson of Scottsdale AZ, Anderson Norcross of Mesa AZ. Grandchildren Thomas Marcus, Galen Marcus and his spouse Sarah, Shashani Marcus, Washconmanthe Marcus, Eagle Sky Jefferson and his spouse Char, Red Sky Dawn Jefferson and seven great grandchildren, Eagle Sky (II), Woikima, Delphine, Taylo, Ena, Ethan, Mitzi and Nathaniel and many other nieces, nephews. grandchildren.
Burial and a traditional Ponca memorial will occur at a future date in Oklahoma.
