Wendy Jane Athey, 41, of Cocoa, FL passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015. Wendy was born in Seattle, WA, but grew up in Florida. Wendy devoted her life to serving the Lord. Jesus was her first love, and she spent her life sharing her faith with those around her. With a Master’s Degree, she worked as a Christian Counselor, founding Worth the Reach Ministries, giving her the ability to counsel those beyond her reach, touching others worldwide, and to share her love and devotion to the Lord, while helping those in need. She also led a radio program locally, WMIE on 91.5FM. Wendy has worked as a youth minister and taught Bible School. She attended Calvary Chapel Space Coast.
Wendy’s beautiful spirit will be remembered for her love of life and for the love she had with those around her; caring deeply and genuinely for her family and friends. She always put others first, making sure she truly listened to their needs, sacrificing herself to help them fix any problem, and never judged. She was fiercely independent and was passionate about everything she set her mind to. Wendy loved fitness; she became a personal trainer and also participated in competitive body-building. She had a green thumb and would spend hours gardening and working in the yard. She enjoyed helping to detail and restore cars. Holidays were her favorite time of year, she took it as another opportunity to surround herself with family and make memories that will last a lifetime.
With her Lord’s guidance, Wendy found her second love and soulmate, her husband Robin, in 2009. The two were married in 2011 and just like anything in her life; she devoted herself to him and his happiness. She enjoyed doing things outdoors with him, and the love between them only grew with time. Wendy was always encouraging and proud.
Wendy is survived by her loving husband, Robin Athey; parents, Mark and Nancy Dean; grandmothers, Barbara and Donna Dean; sister, Chrissy Barrett (David); nephew and nieces: Isaac, Angel, and Madison; uncle, Bill Hoag (Sara); aunt, Irene Lennon (George); cousins: Billy Hoag, Bobby Hoag, Mike Miranda, and Missy Bright; her dog, Cody; and many friends and family in Christ.
A visitation will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 1-3PM with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 3PM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island, FL.
