Merritt Island
Terrance M. (Terry) Smith died peacefully at home on Friday, January 13, 2012. Terry was born October 14, 1937 to Day and Leona Skoda Smith in St. Paul Minnesota. He attended Cretin High School in St Paul and the University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his sons Greg (Susan) of El Dorado Arkansas, Damian (Thuylien) of Rockledge, Joel (Teresa) of Fort Worth, Texas and daughter Pam Edenfield of Savannah, Georgia . He has ten grandchildren: Stephen, Jaclyn, Jessica, Nicholas, Corey, Justin and Alycia Smith, Anna Claire Edenfield, Casey and Carolyn Bonfield. He is also survived by his brother, Timothy Smith of White Bear Lake, and stepmother, Peggy Smith of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota along with many nieces and nephews.
Terry’s aerospace career began with Douglas Aircraft /McDonnell-Douglas in California working on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory and the Saturn programs. He was transferred to Kennedy Space Center in 1972 with Skylab. Other programs included Delta, Space Shuttle Payloads, SPOC, Spacelab Program, Hubble Telescope and the International Space Station. He retired in 1999 as Director of Engineering for Boeing. He was a past president and active member of the McDonnell Douglas Retiree Association.
We will miss his quick sense of humor, his fine culinary talents (especially his eggs benedict), and his wonderful slide shows from his many adventures with his “Minnesota Cruising” friends.
Terry was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church on Merritt Island and served as a lector for many years.
The family will receive friends on Friday January 20, 2012 from 10:00- 11:00 am followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 am at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 N. Courtney Parkway, Merritt Island, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
