Jesus. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 7, 1923, he was raised in Huntington,
West Virginia. With the outbreak of WWII, he never got to graduate with his class, but
went directly into the service for his country. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, the
European-African-Middle Eastern Theater receiving two Bronze Stars. After his
discharge in 1946, he re-enlisted in the Air Force.
Bob married Barbara on October 11, 1946, Annaloosa, Alabama and moved to Orlando,
Florida. In 1952, he moved his family to Merritt Island where he made his permanent
home and joined the emerging Space Industry, retiring from Martin-Marietta.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, Anna Gihlman and Charles Simpson, and by his
brother Charles Simpson. He has two living sisters, Roberta Coovert in Georgia, his
niece, Barbara May Blankenship( Bill) in Marion County, Florida and sister, Jean Lewis
Ohio. Bob has 3 children, Sandra (George), Michael (Kay), and Barbara (Richard).
His life was blessed with l2 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Bob's Going Home Celebration was celebrated on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Wylie
Baxley Funeral Home Chapel with the burial at Florida Memorial Gardens.
