Richard Melvin Barone passed away on November 7, 2022. He was born June 12, 1945, in Buffalo, NY to the late Joseph and Mary Barone. Brother of Robert "Bobby" and the late Joseph and Janet Barone. Father-in-law to the late Jim Sargent. He is survived by his loving wife Jessica and daughter Michelle.
Richard grew up in Buffalo, NY in a large Italian family. He had a passion for art and knowledge. He studied Philosophy, Biology, and earned his Master's degree in Library Science (1973). Richard was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Delta Company of the 25th Infantry Division; served in Vietnam during 1968 and 1969. He was wounded after he got his squad away from enemy fire, stayed with his squad until morning before being treated for his injuries. He earned a long deserved Purple Heart in 2002. Richard had worked as a Sky Marshal, and for most of his career for the federal government in every military branch. Last being at Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) at Patrick Air Force Base in Satellite Beach, FL where he retired.
As a self-thought artist, his love for art remained strong throughout his life, his talent undeniably gifted. Specialized in painting portraits in oils, he captured the essence of the individual in every work of art. Also an author and published his own books -- Traces of a Lost War and Lost in the Blue Room -- as well as enlightening blogs about art, history, and philosophy. He loved traveling which is evident in his artwork, as well as watching classic movies, one of his favorites being 8 ½. He discovered cruising late after retirement and would say, he as Italian explorers, had the travelers gene. Gardening, especially growing tomatoes, and cooking was also a passion.
A devout Catholic all his life, Richard was always humble, caring, and generous with a big heart. He loved to deliver meals to seniors as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for over 18 years. His untimely passing leaves a hole in our hearts, however, his legacy will continue to grow in the lives he has touched and through the numerous paintings he had created.
"We cannot change the past or predict the future but they both converge upon the present and give it meaning. The present in itself can never be experienced. In this way, a painting gives us an exemplary insight into human nature, and its purpose is to communicate meaning without any ulterior motive." – Richard Barone
A funeral service for Richard will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community, 5655 Stadium Pkwy, Melbourne, FL 32940. Burial to follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims.
