On Valentine’s Day of 2023, our beloved LeRoy Smith Sr passed away at the age of 89. He was born on September 18, 1933 in Vero Beach, FL and served his country as an Airman in Germany during the Korean War.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lillian, his brothers, Harry Jr and Charles Frank and his previous wife, Anna Luise. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and his two sons, LeRoy Jr and Richard (Rick), and three step-children. He is also survived by his sister Gloria, many nieces and nephews, along with many grandnieces and grandnephews, and twenty grandchildren, along with ten great-grandchildren.
LeRoy loved old westerns, hats of many kinds, traveling with his family and the simpler enjoyments of life. He was well known for his award-winning smile, amusing antics between family and friends, and his passion for singing. Even towards the end of battling Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy-Body Dementia, he would sing his favorite song, “Old Rugged Cross” by Alan Jackson. He loved and was loved by many of those around him, and will be sorely missed but well remembered.
A Veteran's burial with rendering of Air Force Honors is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Tuesday, February 21st, 2023. LeRoy always loved the warm weather and sunshine in Florida. He will now rest in the sprawling lawn of Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims accompanied by flowers in his favorite color, red.
