John Harold McCurley, Jr., 78, of Titusville, FL, passed peacefully from this life on May 21, 2024 in Titusville, FL. John was born on August 8, 1945 in Tampa, Florida to the late John Harold McCurley Sr. and Henrietta Elizabeth McCurley
John was a loving brother and uncle, photographer, and sailing enthusiast. He enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean and beyond, photographing people and nature, camping and hiking, and being with people. John served in the U.S. Army with the Army Security Agency and for several years as a police officer in Palo Alto, CA. He worked as a professional photographer for the Tampa Tribune and later worked as an independent fashion and industrial photographer. Other work included repairing and remodeling yachts and homes in Florida, and apartments he owned in Houston, TX before retiring to Titusville, FL. He had a passion for motorcycles, cars, sailboats, aircraft, and BBQ.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Harold McCurley Sr. and Henrietta Elizabeth McCurley.
He is survived by his brothers, Bill McCurley (Elizabeth), Curtis McCurley, sister Barbra Lindberg (Eric) as well as 3 nephews, 2 nieces and 3 great nieces. John will be dearly missed by family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of caring for and helping everyone he knew.
A visitation gathering with be held on Wednesday, June 5th from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL 32953, with a funeral beginning at 2:00 PM. John will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, June 6th at 11:30 AM at Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of John.
