James Joseph Hartung, age 58, from Merritt Island, Florida passed away in his home on Sunday, August 16, 2020. James was born to Patricia and Duane Hartung, October of 1961, in Omaha, Nebraska. He moved to Merritt Island when he was 3 years old and attended Audubon Elementary, Jefferson Jr. High, and graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1979. In high school, he ran cross country, was on the Swim Team, and was voted Mr. Merritt Island High.
Jim was a graduate of the University of Florida with a B.S. degree in finance. At UF, he was a Phi Delta Theta brother, the UF's mascot "Albert", and the head cheerleader.
Upon graduation, he moved to New York City to begin his career in finance and sales. After several years of living in his childhood dream city, he was ready to return to Brevard County when he began a career in real estate which included being broker and owner of Hartung Real Estate.
Jim was loved by all that met him. He loved telling stories and entertaining his friends and family. Jim had a gift of connecting with anyone who crossed his path. Jim never met a stranger. He was compassionate, selfless, and truly enjoyed loving, inspiring, and helping others.
He is proceeded in death by his father Duane James Hartung, his niece Tara Marie Miller and his mother in law, Patricia Schwalbach.
Survived by his former wife and best friend Karen Hartung, his beloved mother Patricia Hartung, his brother John Hartung, his sister Jennifer Hartung Sullivan and her husband Gavin Sullivan, his sister Tamara Hartung Iacampo and her husband Dean Iacampo, two nephews Jordan and Joshua Sullivan, his niece Tricia Leonard and her husband Danny Leonard; great-nephews Jackson Miller and Calvin Leonard. Also survived by his sister in laws Valerie Schwalbach, Monica Schwalbach, and her husband Tom Speaks, brother-in-laws Peter Schwalbach, Michael Schwalbach, and his wife Michelle Schwalbach. Nephews Dakota Schwalbach, Erich Schwalbach, nieces Gretchen Schwalbach, Kristen Schwalbach-Paul, Heidi Medina, and great-niece Capote Medina. Also survived by many great friends and cousins.
