Dorothy (Dottie) H. Gillette, 96, of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, died peacefully in her sleep on March 12, 2023. Born November 14, 1926 in Staten Island, New York to Lambert and Evelyn Youmans of Lake Hurst, New Jersey,she is preceded in death by her husband, Halbert (Hal) G. Gillette, PhD of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, and her son Richard W. Gillette of Zurich, Switzerland.
Dottie married the love of her life, Hal in 1947 and spent the next 30 years as a devoted military wife and mother. Her family became the center of her life and remained very important to her to the end. Dottie had a love of travel and far off places. After retirement from the Navy, Dottie and Hal cruised and traveled the world, visiting six of the seven continents.
Besides enjoying playing bridge with friends, and attending Red Hat activities, Dottie also served on many military wive’s committees. Later, she would become a successful realtor in the Merritt Island area.
All who knew her described Dottie as a kind, loving, and caring person. She is survived by three devoted children: Susan F. Powers of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kenneth G. Gillette of Palm Bay, Florida, and Eric G. Gillette of Merritt Island, Florida. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Dottie during her last years. Visitation and service will be held at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N. Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, Florida 32953 on Thursday, March 16 at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Brevard Memorial Park, 320 Spring Street, Cocoa, Florida 32927.
