Barbara J Greenslate

She was a dear mother to Elizabeth Miller, James Miller, Allen Miller (Zekiye) and Christi Beck (Keith Barton). She was a beloved grandmother to Justin Beck (Shelley), Joshua Beck (Megan), Sercan Celik, Justin Seale and Jenna Datema (Travis). She was a loving, great grandmother, ”G.G.”, to Jackson and Julia Datema and David Beck.

Barbara was born in Denver, Colorado on August 20, 1939 to Herman Henry “Jim” Greenslate and Kathleen Benson. She was raised from the age of eight years old in Rock Island, Illinois by her devoted, loving grandmother, Mary Benson, after the death of her mother, Kathleen.

Barbara married Kenneth J. G. Miller, Jr. on May 14, 1960. Kenneth and Barbara moved to the Space Coast of Florida in 1963 and divorced in 1978. She was a dedicated homemaker and lifelong acquirer of knowledge. She worked as an administrative assistant and procurement specialist before earning her bachelor’s degree at the age of sixty. She then embarked upon her profession as a paralegal for a law firm.

Barbara enjoyed a lengthy retirement. As an avid reader her entire life, she volunteered in elementary schools mentoring and encouraging children to develop a love of reading. She was passionate about writing, authoring a book, countless short stories, and kept journals of her life experiences. Barbara followed politics closely and volunteered her time as an election worker. She also loved to research and document her family genealogy. She enjoyed traveling, both near and far. Of all the places, in all the world, she was happiest spending time with her family.

She will be laid to rest, next to her mother and grandmother, in Rock Island, Illinois.
