Born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, Ms. Christy moved to Florida early in her life settling in Brevard County in the 1960’s. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love and devotion to her Lord, a devout woman of faith, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island.
Prior to moving to Florida Ms. Christy, or Joanne as she preferred, worked at Cannon Mills. When her husband passed, she took employment at McDonnel Douglas where she worked until her retirement in 2002.
Whenever she had time off Joanne thoroughly enjoyed the ocean, bowling, reading and especially shopping.
She was extremely proud of her family always sharing photos and memories of them with others.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, father Sherril E. and mother Cecil H. Christy.
She is survived by children Shari Evetts of Cocoa Beach, Michael Ennis of Palm Bay and Amy Ennis-Wilson of Merritt Island. Grandchildren Matthew Bellina, Holly Davis, Michael Ennis and Amanda Wilson. Great Grandchildren Mariah Ennis, Michael Christopher Ennis, Jackson Bellina and Tilden Davis.
In addition, Joanne was blessed to have great friends throughout her life. Hazel Lowe was with her until she moved to Florida and currently still resides in North Carolina. In her later years, she was befriended by Jim Larocque who literally stayed by her side for hours at a time helping her during the most difficult times.
Proverbs 31:
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Services to celebrate her life to be held on Friday March 18, 2022 at 10:30 in the Chapel of Merritt Island First Baptist Church.
