Victoria "Vickie" Scoggins was born on November 22, 1955 in Bangor, Maine to Richard Carmichael and Rita (Bryan) Carmichael. Vickie grew weary in her battle against brain cancer and was called home to Heaven on January 10, 2014, in Atwater, California at the age of 58 in the loving arms of her husband Lynn Scoggins. Now with the Lord, Vickie has claimed her healthy, heavenly body.
Vickie had lived in Merced since the age of 11 attending Hoover Middle School, Merced High School Class of 1973 and Merced College. Vickie was an active member in her churches, This Ain't Your Mama's Church and The Clay.
Vickie is survived by her devoted husband and love of her life William "Lynn" Scoggins. They were married nearly 24 years. Vickie is also survived by her loving family and children Shannon Copus (Kim) of Merced, CA, daughter Brandi Copus Baker (Wayne) of Longview, TX, daughter Kara Richter (Jason) of San Diego, CA, son Darren Scoggins (Benita) of Fresno, CA, daughter Bliss Swayne (Shaun) of Fort Leonard Wood, MO and daughter Michelle Souza of Merced, CA. Mom Dorothy Carmichael of San Bruno, CA, sister Debbie Alexander (Mike) of Merced, CA, brother Paul Eden (Debbie) of Pleasanton, CA, brother Tim Eden (Kathy) of San Bruno, CA, brother Bruce Carmichael of Livermore, CA and cousin Jana (Chuck) Rhoades of Peoria, AZ. Grandchildren Kayla Copus and Michael Copus of Merced, CA, Thomas Hardin of McGehee, AK, Ryan Richter, Michael Richter and Anaiah Richter of San Diego, CA, Capricia Clark and Ezekiel Scoggins of Fresno, CA, DeWitt Swayne of Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Teryn White of Merced, CA . Vickie also leaves behind her niece and nephews Zach Alexander (Sarah), Sarah Baker (Rod), Aaron Alexander (Alina) and Adam Alexander (Carissa) all of Merced, CA. Great-nephews and great-nieces Molly Baker, Elizabeth Alexander, Isabella Alexander, Emma Alexander, Giselle Alexander, Unity Contreras, Phoenix Alexander, Chase Baker, Ayden Alexander and Cheyenne Alexander all of Merced, CA.
Vickie is preceded in death by her father Richard Carmichael, her mother Rita (Bryan) Carmichael, grandmother Lucille Bryan and uncle Jim Barnard.
Vickie's family would like to thank her Stanford Hospital medical team members; Neurosurgeon Dr. Shuer, Neuroscience Nurse Practitioner Candice Osuga, Neuroncologist Dr. Receht and Neuroncology Nurse Practitioner Megan Gershon for their many years of care and friendship. We would also like to thank her son Darren Scoggins, granddaughter Teryn White and nurse Megan Mellow from Optimal Hospice Care of Modesto, CA for taking such good care of Vickie during her final days.
A memorial service in celebration of Vickie's life will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, CA, on Saturday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow the service at This Ain't Your Mama's Church, 1405 West Main Street, Merced, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
