Robert MacLachlan was born to Dora and Robert MacLachlan on April 9, 1939 in San Diego, Ca. Robert passed away September 9, 2022 in Merced, Ca. at the age of 83, surrounded by his wife Becky, his sister Irene and his goddaughter Maggie.
Robert spent his childhood years in Oceanside, Ca., later moving to Planada, Ca. During his teen years in Planada, he worked in the agriculture industry. After that, Robert and his family relocated to the Southern California desert town of Indio where he resided the next 59 years. While living in Indio, his employment began with Shadow Mountain Golf Course. In 1969, he began his employment of 34 years as a groundsman at College of the Desert, Palm Desert, Ca. where he retired from in 2003. Robert met his wife Becky in the summer of 1977 and they later married in Indio, Ca. on December 9, 1977. This coming December would have marked their 45th wedding anniversary.
Robert’s sense of humor and witty personality were assets that contributed to his having vast friendships and acquaintances. He was a kind hearted, gentle man who was loved by his family and liked by all those who he met throughout his life.
Robert had an avid interest in documentaries of Egyptian and Mayan cultures, and metal detecting, especially old American coins. He was an enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and all things Bigfoot. He was a bowling league member and enjoyed participating in bowling tournaments. With his wife Becky, Robert enjoyed visiting areas of America’s history on the East Coast.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dora MacLachlan, and by his sisters Gloria DalPorto and Mary Anne Nishihama.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Becky) MacLachlan of Merced, Ca.; brothers, Ralph MacLachlan (Brenda) of Georgia, Bill MacLachlan (Vicky) of Kansas, and Larry MacLachlan (Rosalinda) of Georgia; sisters, Helen MacLachlan of Merced, Ca and Irene Ruiz (Paul) of Merced, Ca.; half-sisters, Diana and Becky Maclachlan, and half-brother Bobby Maclachlan all of National City, Ca. Also surviving Robert are 24 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Noble Hospice and Palliative Care of the Central Valley, especially Rhonda and Sarah for their help and support in caring for Robert.

A visitation and vigil service with a rosary will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street, Merced, Ca. The funeral mass will be at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church located at 671 East Yosemite Ave, Merced, Ca at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Stratford Evans Reception Hall.
