Robert "Bob" Hand was born to caring parents in 1914 at Chicago, Illinois. He married Dorothy Riedel in 1938, and during their 66 years of marriage, they were the caring parents of Robert, Bruce, and Steve. Dorothy passed away in 2004.
Upon graduation from Purdue University in 1936, Robert followed his father into civil engineering. As a career officer, he served in World War II and the Korean War in the Regular Army Corps of Engineers. He retired to Merced in 1965. He was the civil engineer for the City of Merced for seven years beginning in 1967 and then for a year with the City of Atwater.
He and his wife were active members of United Methodist Church from1965 and were well served by that congregation.
There will be a memorial service at the Methodist church at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 27th. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity are suggested.
