Magna, Utah, to Ray and Alice
Merrill Boothe. He attended
elementary school in Honeyville,
Utah, and graduated from Box
Elder High School. He married
Leota Hunsaker on July 17,
1953, in the Logan, Utah Temple.
Before beginning his teaching
career he served two years in
the Air Force. He graduated
from Utah State University
with a Master’s of Science in
Health, Physical Education and
Recreation. Later in life he
also obtained a Master’s Degree
in Counseling. He began his
teaching and coaching career in
Paris, Idaho. He also taught
at the LDS Church College in
Temple View, New Zealand,
for four and a half years. He
returned to Utah to continue
teaching, and then accepted a job
at Mitchell Senior Elementary
in Atwater, California, in 1964,
where he taught and coached
until retiring in 1993 after nearly
40 years in education.
He and Leota served two
missions for The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints,
one in Slovakia and another at
Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
He was a faithful member of
the LDS church and served as
a Bishop in New Zealand and
again in Atwater, as well as a
counselor in the Fresno Stake
and in the first Merced Stake
Presidencies. He was an early
morning seminary teacher for
ten years.
He loved to serve others and
touched countless lives as a
teacher, coach, neighbor, and
friend. He also loved to garden
and golf, scoring four holes in
one! He is survived by his wife
of 64 years, Leota; six children,
Greg (Jean), Debora, Teryl
(Penny), Merrilyn, Lorraine and
Cynthia; 14 grandchildren and
10 great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his sister
Dolores, brother Lee, and his
parents Ray and Alice.
A viewing will be held from
10:00-10:45 a.m. on Wed., April
19, at the LDS chapel on 5554
N. Winton Way in Atwater.
Services will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will take place at a
later date in the Honeyville,
