Olegario had a strong work ethic throughout his entire life and never failed to hold a steady job. He worked until his mid-80’s as he said he did not want to get “bored” or “die young”. He met his goal. Born in Texas he lived there for 32 years. He moved to Arizona in 1957, where he lived for 12 years and then moved to California in 1969 where he lived out the rest of his life.
As the youngest of his family, Olegario was predeceased by his 10 siblings and by his parents, Feliz De Hoyos Herrera and Clemente De Hoyos. He was also predeceased by Elvira De Hoyos Garcia whom he married in El Tepeyac, Coach, Mexico on May 13, 1944. He is survived by their eight children, Abelardo (Abe) De Hoyos, Olegario (David) De Hoyos Jr., Estella De Hoyos, Leticia De Hoyos (Sweeney), Irma De Hoyos (Michelson), Elva De Hoyos (Vye), Martha De Hoyos (Fontana), and Guillermo (Willie) De Hoyos. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren upon whom he showered much love and affection (cariños).
The Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 8:30 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 671 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced California. Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately thereafter at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 260 West Childs Ave., Merced, California.
