Newman (Mike) Martin Warren Jr. was born to N.M. and Anna Mae Warren on November 9, 1920 in Sweetwater, TX.
He graduated from high school in Blythe, CA. He attended University of California Berkeley and Lubbock Texas Colleges.
Mike became a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. After being commissioned in 1944, he served in Burma with the “Night Cargo Squadron”. He flew cargo to the British and Chinese, having flown 1,000 combat hours. He returned to Dos Palos and married Dortha Satterfield, whom he had met while training at Eagle Field. He later served a year in Korea as a Meteorologist. After many moves, including to Germany, and later on, Hawaii, he retired as a Major in Merced with his wife and family. While there, he was a social worker for Merced County for 10 years.
Mike was a member of the Merced Church of Christ. He enjoyed reading, especially Louis Lamoure books, traveling, hiking, coaching Little League, and all sports, especially football and baseball.
Mike loved his family and his dog, “Bubba” very much. We will greatly miss our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, whom we all loved very much!
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; son, David; and brother, James.
He leaves behind his wife, Dortha; daughter, Jana (Larry) Smiley; son, Barry Warren; grandchildren, Jason (Delfina), Matt (Amber), Nathan Warren, Chad Groeschel (Laurell), and Sharon (Michael); great grandchildren, Nicholas, Tyler, Alyssa, Jacob, Micah, Mason, Michael, and Lilly; sister in laws, Mary Leverett, Peggy (Domonic) Manfredi, and Edith (Jack) Wheeler; and ex-daughter in law, Carol Poe.
There will be a private military graveside service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
