Nettie was a loving person who always put others before herself. Anyone who entered her home was greeted with a smile and escorted out to their vehicle when they left. Even after she could no longer cook she would always ask, “are you hungry” or “have you eaten”. She loved to celebrate all special occasions especially Christmas and New Year’s having parties at her home that included confetti that lingered for the next 3 months. She loved to dress up and did it with class, up until her late 70’s she only wore dresses or skirts that exposed her beautiful legs. She always looked forward to the annual Parga Reunion and would save egg shells all year long for her cascarones sale. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, canning, gardening, upholstery, cake decorating and collecting homemade remedies for all ailments. In the last few years of her life she looked forward to casino trips that seemed to ease her pain. Nettie was a hard worker who always provided for her children when needed. She worked as a field worker, cook/helper at Estrella Store/Boarding House in Planada, cannery worker, Douglas Airlines during the war, Levi Strauss seamstress, housekeeper, nurses aid and Margarita Tortilla’s.
The family has suffered a GREAT loss but will be especially missed by her grandson, Jeremy whom she helped raised since birth. When she became to frail to care for herself he then cooked and took care of her daily along with other immediate family. Her other caregivers were Leticia Moreno and Sallie Ann Avalos. Despite the disease process that stripped her of recent memories she was always very happy and the family will cherish these memories forever.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Arellano and Margarita Parga Esquivel; husbands, Aurelio Tirado and Antonio Valdez; companion of more than 20 years, Jess Sanchez; sister, Lottie Tellez; brother, Ruben Arellano; and grandson, Clint Trujillo. She leaves behind her children, Vicky Tirado, Harry Tirado, Robert Tirado (Dolly) and Hope Avalos (Art); 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; brother, Jess Esquivel and sister, Margarita Mouw.
The family would like to thank Bristol Hospice for their help and guidance in their time of need.
